Paglaom Alang sa Batan-on

When we first got our computer, I immediately felt drawn to exploring it. As a seven-year old kid, I discovered my passion for graphic design through Microsoft PowerPoint. Even as a child, I knew I loved both tech and the arts.

Growing up, I realized how privileged I was compared to other kids my age. Not everyone had the chance to explore technology as I did. This awareness has driven me to become the community builder I am today.

Designing tech solutions to improve the community has always been at the core of my advocacy as a tech volunteer. I aim to extend this passion to my peers and others of my age and gender, inspiring them to create positive change in our beloved Mindanao. This is my hope, ang akong paglaom, for the youth of Mindanao

A Journey Back to Tech and Beyond

After a tough period of burnout in late 2019, I took a break from coding. It wasn’t long before the lure of technology pulled me back in through DEVCON Davao’s online events. My passion reignited, I wanted to volunteer with DCTX during the pandemic but didn’t know where to start. Fate intervened when my former classmate in university, then president of DEVCON Davao, reached out. Now, I work remotely, which not only reconnects me with tech but also frees me to explore—from the majestic mountains to the serene waters of Mindanao.

Akong sugilanon sa Mindanao

I am passionate about tech, particularly in Backend Web Development and Cybersecurity Red Team, because these fields present constant challenges that push me to continually learn and grow. This path of mine started during 2022 where I met people who are into cybersecurity and it piqued my interest realizing cybersec is very challenging. On the other hand, backend web development is my safety net and also my comfort path. I volunteer to share my skills and knowledge, aiming to contribute to the community and connect with like-minded individuals who share my interests and enthusiasm. Mindanao is significant to me not only because it is my home, but also because I want to create opportunities and foster growth within the local tech community, helping to build a stronger, more innovative region.
