I envision Mindanao at the forefront of tech not only in the country but across the globe. To some, this might seem far-fetched, but I firmly believe this can be achieved—one community at a time.

I moved to Mindanao from Bicol seven years ago. Although I’m not a native Mindanaoan, this place has become my home. Initially, adapting to the new environment and culture was challenging, but I gradually immersed myself in the local communities. I’ve had the privilege of working with some of the most amazing people in tech through groups like Devcon.

This involvement inspired me to lead my own community, DurianPy—the Python community in Davao—and to co-found PWA Pilipinas – Davao. These communities have fostered both my professional and personal growth. I’ve made friends who share my interests and passions, and being part of these groups has given me a true sense of belonging. It’s remarkable how a place can start to feel like home, even if you weren’t born there. Mindanao has given me a sense of community and purpose, and for that, I am profoundly grateful.

My aspiration is to contribute to the growth of tech in the region and give back to the communities that helped me propel my career forward. I envision Mindanao at the forefront of tech not only in the country but across the globe. To some, this might seem far-fetched, but I firmly believe this can be achieved—one community at a time.
